November 2026 examination session
IB HL Chemistry revision for the exam: crash course, mock exam practice and past paper drill
Singapore students sitting the November 2026 session write Chemistry across two consecutive days. Revision has to be planned around that shape, not just around the syllabus.
| Date | Session | Paper | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed 11 Nov 2026 | Afternoon | Chemistry HL paper 1 (1A and 1B) | 2h |
| Wed 11 Nov 2026 | Afternoon | Chemistry SL paper 1 (1A and 1B) | 1h 30m |
| Thu 12 Nov 2026 | Morning | Chemistry HL paper 2 | 2h 30m |
| Thu 12 Nov 2026 | Morning | Chemistry SL paper 2 | 1h 30m |
Paper 1 finishes on Wednesday afternoon and Paper 2 begins on Thursday morning. There is no full recovery day in between. HL students face 4 hours 30 minutes of Chemistry inside about 20 hours, so stamina, sleep and a rehearsed Wednesday-evening routine matter as much as content. We rehearse that sequence in mock exam practice, not just individual papers.
Dates and durations shown are taken from the IB’s published November 2026 examination schedule. Always confirm the final timetable with your school’s Diploma Programme coordinator.
Singapore IB schools — 2026 average Diploma points
Most Singapore students do not need more content. They need marks the examiner can award.
A pattern I see again and again in able students is not weak mathematics or a poor work ethic. It is a good answer produced too quickly: one missing reason, one unstated link, one sign, one unit, one assumption the examiner cannot give credit for. In IB Chemistry that is the whole distance between a 6 and a 7.
Explain, do not just answer
“Explain”, “justify”, “deduce” and “suggest” each demand a different reasoning chain. We practise producing exactly what the command term asks for.
Slow down at the scoring points
Units, state symbols, signs, significant figures, equilibrium expressions and axis labels are the easiest marks in the paper to lose at speed.
Write shorter, cover more
Many students write a paragraph and still miss two of the four marking points. We train compact answers with correct IB terminology.
Read the unfamiliar question first
Harder IB questions mix topics deliberately. We identify what is actually being tested before committing to a familiar method that does not fit.
Global wisdom on education
Two figures who shaped Singapore and Britain said much the same thing about achievement: it is built, deliberately, through preparation.
If there was one formula for our success, it was that we were constantly studying how to make things work, or how to make them work better.
It’s all to do with the training: you can do a lot if you’re properly trained.
That is exactly how one-to-one IB Chemistry tuition works here: find what is not working, train it properly, and test whether it now works better under exam conditions.
Inside the lessons
IB SL/HL Chemistry online tuition: notes, past paper practice and IA support in one programme
Both Standard and Higher Level students are welcome. The programme is deliberately HL-led, because that is where multi-step reasoning and conceptual links become most demanding.
Structure
Atomic structure, bonding, periodicity, molecular geometry, intermolecular forces and spectroscopy — taught as connected models, not isolated definitions to memorise.
Reactivity
Energetics, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox, electrochemistry and organic mechanisms, with every calculation tied back to what is chemically happening.
SL & HL notes
Complete written notes for each topic, plus annotated whiteboard work and worked solutions the student keeps for later revision.
Past papers & question bank
Topic-by-topic past paper practice and IB question bank drill, marked for the reason the mark was lost and then repeated until the error disappears.
Mock exam practice
Timed Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 sections under real conditions, followed by correction: not what the answer was, but why the mark went.
IA & lab investigation help
Research-question refinement, method design, variables, uncertainty, data analysis and evaluation — within IB academic-integrity rules, with the work remaining the student’s own.
How I teach
The lesson follows your school topic and your errors, not a fixed worksheet
I start with the topic you are covering in school right now, together with whatever earlier material it depends on. That approach makes a student productive almost immediately: you can take part in class discussion again, and the improvement usually shows from the very next test or assessment.
Where a topic is already secure, I do not re-teach it. We go straight to topic-by-topic past papers and question bank work at that level instead.
I also bring practical R&D laboratory experience and years of seeing chemistry work in textile wet-processing industry, alongside teaching chemistry at university level. So when you ask where a concept is actually used in daily life, you get a real answer rather than a deflection.
Why a London tutor suits a Singapore timetable
IB exam zones, Singapore time and your weekly lesson slot
The IB runs its examinations in three zones so that papers are sat at comparable times around the world. Singapore and the UK sit in different zones — which is useful for you, because it puts my quietest teaching hours in your after-school window.
Singapore sits here
Approximately UTC+3.5 to UTC+12, covering much of Asia and Oceania. Singapore stays on UTC+8 all year, with no daylight-saving change.
The United Kingdom sits here
Approximately UTC+0 to UTC+3. The UK runs on GMT (UTC+0) in winter and British Summer Time (UTC+1) in summer, so the gap to Singapore is 7 or 8 hours.
The Americas
Approximately UTC−10 to UTC−1, covering much of North and South America. Useful to know if your family is comparing tutors across several regions.
Singapore lesson times, worked out for you
| London lesson start | Singapore time (UK on BST) | Singapore time (UK on GMT) |
|---|---|---|
| 09:00 | 16:00 | 17:00 |
| 10:00 | 17:00 | 18:00 |
| 11:00 | 18:00 | 19:00 |
| 12:00 | 19:00 | 20:00 |
| 13:00 | 20:00 | 21:00 |
The UK clock changes in late March and late October, so your Singapore slot shifts by an hour twice a year. Exact availability varies by day — confirm your slot when booking.
Singapore does not run on one IB calendar
May-session and November-session students need different revision clocks
This is exactly why a generic “IB Year 1 / IB Year 2” tutoring plan is not good enough here. Some Singapore schools sit the November session; international schools generally follow an August-to-June year leading to May examinations.
Local-calendar IB students
Schools such as ACS (Independent), Hwa Chong International School and School of the Arts run Diploma teaching towards the November session, with the academic year beginning early in the calendar year.
International-school IB students
UWCSEA, Tanglin Trust School, Dulwich College Singapore and similar schools run from around mid-August to late June, with Diploma examinations in May of Year 13.
Calendar examples are drawn from schools’ own published information and the IB school directory. Individual school calendars, mock dates and IA deadlines change each year, so your school’s dates always take priority in planning.
Revision programmes
Crash course, weekly tuition or a short diagnostic block
Not every student needs a year of weekly lessons. Some need a focused fortnight before mocks; others need steady support from the start of Year 1. Three shapes cover most Singapore families.
Whichever school you are at
One specialist IB Chemistry tutor, across every Singapore IB community
Online lessons remove the journey to a tuition centre, which matters when a Diploma timetable is already full. Students come to me from across Singapore’s IB schools, on both examination sessions.

The grade is part of a bigger plan
HL Chemistry is often the subject carrying the university application
Singapore IB students are rarely just trying to pass Chemistry. They are building a Diploma profile for competitive applications — frequently across several countries at once. For medicine, natural sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy or engineering, HL Chemistry is usually the subject the offer depends on.
Predicted grades are decided early
Year 1 tests, mocks and IA progress all feed the predicted grade, and applications often open before the Diploma is finished. Recurring errors have to be fixed well before the final exam.
Chemistry must keep moving
TOK, the Extended Essay, CAS and admissions work all compete for the same evenings. A weekly one-to-one lesson keeps Chemistry from being the subject that quietly slips.
Interviews reward real understanding
Oxbridge, medicine and NUS/NTU interviews test whether a student can reason aloud. Explaining chemistry in lessons builds exactly that habit.

What parents notice first
Clear explanations are useful. Knowing exactly what to improve is better.
Reviews from IB families are published in full on the iBLaurel site, including students taught for HL Chemistry alongside Physics and Maths.

Questions from Singapore families
IB Chemistry tutor Singapore — frequently asked questions
Do you teach both IB Chemistry HL and SL students in Singapore?
Yes. Tuition is one-to-one for both Higher Level and Standard Level. HL lessons carry the additional depth and the more demanding quantitative and explanatory work Higher Level requires. HL and SL students do not receive the same lesson with a different label on it.
My child sits the November 2026 exams. Is there still time?
Yes, and the shape of what we do depends on how much time remains. Chemistry Paper 1 is on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 November 2026 and Paper 2 the following morning, so an autumn programme is built backwards from those two dates: syllabus repair first, then topic-by-topic past paper practice, then full timed mock exam practice including the back-to-back sequence.
Do you support both May and November examination sessions?
Yes. Singapore has students on both rhythms. Revision is planned backwards from the student’s own session, school tests, mocks and IA deadlines rather than from a generic IB calendar.
My child is already getting a 6 and wants a 7. Can tuition help?
That is often where one-to-one work pays best. We spend little time re-teaching secure material and most of it on mixed-topic questions, command terms, explanation depth, data interpretation, accuracy, and the small recurring errors that stop a strong answer becoming a complete one. No tutor can guarantee a grade, and I will not pretend otherwise.
Can you help with the IB Chemistry IA and lab investigation?
Yes, within IB academic-integrity requirements. I help students refine a feasible research question, understand the underlying chemistry, improve experimental design, handle uncertainty and error, analyse data and write a real evaluation. I do not write or complete assessed work for a student. If you want a starting point, the free IB Chemistry IA ideas page is the place to begin.
How does online Chemistry tuition work without a laboratory?
Practical work stays with the school. Lessons focus on the chemistry around it: method design, control of variables, uncertainty, graphing, data interpretation, limitations and practical examination questions. Mechanisms, equations and calculations are built live on a shared digital whiteboard, and you keep the annotated notes afterwards.
What lesson times work for Singapore?
My London morning is the natural window. A 09:00 London start is 16:00 in Singapore while the UK is on British Summer Time, and 17:00 when the UK is on GMT; later London mornings run into the Singapore evening. Because Singapore stays on UTC+8 year-round, your slot shifts by one hour when the UK clocks change.
Do you provide notes, past papers and a question bank?
Yes. Students receive complete SL or HL notes for each topic, worked solutions, topic-by-topic past paper sets and question bank practice, plus the annotated whiteboard record from every lesson. Free topic-wise questions are also published on the iBLaurel question bank.
How do we start?
Book the free 30-minute consultation, or message Waseem on WhatsApp with the student’s school, HL or SL level, current grade, examination session and where the difficulty is. I will then tell you whether weekly tuition, a short diagnostic block or a focused exam crash course is the sensible starting point — including if I think you do not need me yet.
Tell me where Chemistry is going wrong. I will show you how I would fix it.
Thirty free minutes is enough to discuss the current grade, the target, the school calendar, the examination session, and the gap between what your child knows and what their marks are showing.
