Waseem
Specialist Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & Statistics Tutor in London & Online
I have spent close to three decades teaching quantitative subjects in the UK and the UAE, much of it one-to-one. My students range from GCSE and IGCSE through A Level, IB and AP to university foundation year, undergraduate and selected postgraduate modules.
My teaching combines long tutoring experience with advanced academic study and twelve years of professional experience in research and development, product development, systems and compliance. That allows me to teach not only how a method works, but also why it matters and where a student may meet it again at university or in professional life.

iBLaurel is not a tutoring agency.
Every one-to-one lesson is taught by me. Students are not passed to a junior tutor, teaching assistant or subcontractor. I get to know each student’s strengths, gaps, school programme and longer-term goals, and adapt the tuition accordingly.
From school foundations to university-level quantitative work
My established specialisms are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. I also teach Statistics, Data Analysis, Quantitative Methods and related quantitative subjects where they match my academic and professional background.
Physics
Building physical intuition first, then translating it into mathematical reasoning, problem solving and precise examination answers.
Chemistry
From core chemical principles and quantitative calculations to practical work, experimental design and the interpretation of data.
Mathematics
Algebra, calculus, vectors, probability and modelling taught as connected ideas rather than isolated procedures to memorise.
Statistics & Data
Statistical reasoning, probability, data analysis and quantitative methods for appropriate university and postgraduate modules.
At university and postgraduate level I accept work selectively, where the module falls within my subject expertise.
Understanding first. Technique where it matters.
I teach for understanding rather than drill. A student who knows why a result holds is much better equipped when a question changes its wording or combines several ideas.
That understanding is then paired with the technique required by the course: reading command terms carefully, choosing the correct method, showing enough working, using appropriate terminology and giving the answer at the precision the question requires.
Understanding develops independence; good technique converts that understanding into marks.
I begin with what the student needs now.
I usually start with the topic a student is currently studying at school or university, together with any earlier knowledge on which it depends.
This means tuition is immediately useful rather than detached from what is happening in class.
I do not spend lesson time re-teaching material a student already understands. Once a topic is secure, we test that understanding against carefully chosen questions, topic-wise past papers or more advanced applications appropriate to the level.
Connecting classroom ideas with university and the real world
Students often become much more interested in a topic when they can see where it is going. Because I have worked in industry and teach through to university level, I can often connect what a student is learning now with the more advanced form of the same idea.
“Where is titration actually used?”
A school chemistry calculation becomes more meaningful when a student understands how quantitative analysis, concentration measurement and controlled laboratory procedures are used in research, product development and quality systems.
“Why does linear algebra matter?”
Matrices and vectors are not simply another chapter in mathematics. They become tools for modelling, data analysis, optimisation, computing, engineering and many other quantitative disciplines.
“Will I use this in my degree?”
A student interested in biomedical engineering, engineering, physical science, data science or another quantitative field can benefit from seeing how school mathematics and science develop into the tools used later in university study.
I do not turn every school lesson into a university lecture. The point is to add context when it genuinely helps: to answer a student’s curiosity, strengthen motivation and show how apparently separate topics begin to fit together.
Formal study across science, mathematics, statistics and quantitative methods
I have continued to study throughout my teaching career. Keeping my own knowledge current is important to me, and it also helps me show students how subjects evolve beyond school.
Research, product development, systems & compliance
Before focusing fully on education, I spent approximately twelve years working in industry across research and development, product development, systems and compliance.
That professional background changed the way I see scientific and mathematical education.
Measurements have consequences. Variation needs to be understood. Data must be interpreted rather than merely calculated. Procedures need a reason, and a model is useful only if its assumptions are understood.
These are habits of thought that begin in school Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics and become increasingly important in university and professional work.
Theory with context
When it is useful, I can explain a topic from more than one perspective:
- what the school or university course requires;
- how to solve the problem correctly;
- how the idea develops at a higher level;
- where related methods appear in practical work;
- and how the topic may connect with a student’s intended degree.
International Baccalaureate tuition
IB remains a major part of my work. I teach IB Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics one-to-one, in person in London and online, including the examination technique and quantitative precision required at both Standard and Higher Level.
IB Physics
Concepts, mathematical problem solving, practical work and examination technique.

Over the years I have taught students in the United Kingdom, the UAE, Switzerland, Germany, France, the United States, Canada, Australia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore and elsewhere — both privately and through established tutoring organisations.
Six years teaching in Dubai
From 2012 to 2018 I lived and taught in Dubai, where I co-founded a tutoring practice at Dubai Knowledge Village. Those years brought me students from many of Dubai’s leading international schools, and some of those students and their families remain in touch with me today.
I continue to teach students in the UAE online. Families there can find more on my tuition page for students in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Students I have worked with have attended schools including:
North London Collegiate School · Southbank International School · ACS Cobham · Charterhouse · Deutsche Schule London
Aiglon College · Institut Le Rosey · Leysin American School · International School of Geneva
Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) · GEMS World Academy · Repton School Dubai · Raffles World Academy · Emirates International School · Dubai International Academy · Deira International School
British International School of Jeddah · Jeddah Knowledge International School · Mont’Kiara International School
Face-to-face tuition in London
One-to-one lessons in person across Central and West London.
Online tuition, internationally
Live one-to-one lessons for students in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, scheduled around their time zone.
How lessons begin
Tuition is available in person across Central and West London, and online across the UK and internationally.
I work with students at GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, IB, AP, university foundation year and university level, including selected undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
To begin, tell me the subject, level, current situation and the areas where support is needed.
I will reply personally so that we can discuss the student’s goals, current progress and suitable lesson times.
There is no obligation.
A short consultation allows me to understand what the student needs and whether I am the right tutor to help.
If the work falls outside my expertise, I would rather say so than take on tuition that is not the right fit.
Serious one-to-one tuition, personally delivered.
Whether the immediate goal is to strengthen a difficult school topic, prepare for an important examination or handle a demanding university module, the starting point is the same: understand where the student is now and build from there.
